Benefits of Clay

Benefits of Clay | Crystal Bar Soap

What Is Clay?

Clay is one of the most cleansing and detoxifying ingredients you can use on your skin —both now and in ancient cultures. Rich in minerals, the benefits of clay for skin in helping to clear blemishes, draw out impurities and leave you with a brighter and happier skin.

These clays are naturally colored by variations in the minerals found in the soil in the different regions and do not contain any artificial dyes or pigments. There are many different types of clay:  from Rose and Kaolin, to French Green and Red. Each full of different benefits for your skin.

Benefits of Each Kind of Clay?

French Green Clay

This is probably the most aesthetically pleasing clay ever due to its calming green color. Green clay has minerals like iron oxide, dolomite, magnesium, calcium, potassium, manganese, phosphorus, zinc, aluminum, silicon, copper, selenium, and cobalt. This type of clay is important for its stimulating effect on the skin surface. It helps absorbs dead skin cells and debris from the surface and stimulates blood supply of the skin. As the clay dries, it contracts the pores making them appear smaller while cleaning away the unwanted oily secretions.

Kaolin Clay

Kaolin clay comes in various colors like pink, white, red, and yellow are the better-known ones, each of which have different capacities.

  • White Kaolin clay: It is the softest and subsequently extraordinary for a sensitive and dry skin. The clay does not absorb a lot. It softens the skin with delicate bits for soft exfoliation.
  • Yellow Kaolin clay: It is marginally more exfoliating and absorbent yet stays sufficiently delicate for a sensitive skin. The clay can ensure boost of circulation and so it is probably found in brightening masks.
  • Pink Kaolin clay: It is practically a blend of the red and white kaolin clays. It is ideal clay for delicate skin that requires soft exfoliation and oil vacuuming.
  • Red Kaolin clay: It has the most absorbing capacity among the other Kaolin Clays and is best suited for oily skin. This is an extraordinary addition to skin acne and detoxifying masks in the body or face.
Bentonite Clay

Bentonite clay can be used to treat skin discoloration. It also lightens your skin naturally and takes care of acne, scars, and stretch marks. Therefore, use it in products formulated for skin whitening.

What Is The Right Clay For My Skin Type?

Normal Skin
If you have normal skin, you want to make sure your skin remains balanced and well hydrated after treatment, so you need to use a clay that won't strip your skin of moisture.

Kaolin Clay is one of the mildest clays available, as it gently cleanses the skin without removing too much oil and causing sensitivity to the skin. Its mild exfoliant properties help to remove dead skin cells and impurities from the skin, reducing blemishes and imperfections.

For a gentle cleanse, reach for our Milky Way Bath Salt to gently detox the skin without disrupting the natural balance of your skin. To add even more moisturizing into your bath add in our Garden Goddess Bath Bomb. This is made with coconut oil and coconut milk powder, a animal free, milky, and moisturizing bath bomb to hydrate your skin.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin can be one of the hardest skin types to work with due to the fact that most ingredients can cause some degree of irritation. Opt for a clay that gently cleanses without drawing out too many impurities so that your skin remains soothed.

Rose Clay is an ideal clay to use if you have sensitive skin as it has mild exfoliating properties, which is great for clearing your skin without harsh and abrasive ingredients. It doesn't absorb a lot of oil from the skin, so still leaves you with a hydrated complexion, while still removing toxins at the same time.

Luckily for our sensitive skin friends rose clay is one of our favorite clays to work with. Our range of Rose Clay products will easily bring the energy of the herbal apothecary to your self care routines while carefully refreshing your skin. Ceramic Rose, Healers Horizon, and Desert Moon were all created with rose clay being the main ingredients and scented with settle aroma. **We still recommend doing a small test patch before using.

Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, clay-based skincare is brilliant at removing excess oil and leaving you with a matte and healthy complexion. French Green Clay is brilliant for oily skin types as they work much better at absorbing excess oil than more gentle based ones. It helps to clear out clogged pores, eliminating blackheads, whiteheads and acne thanks to its purifying properties that draw out impurities and toxins.

You can find French Green clay in one of our favorite bath bombs Ego Rebirth which is filled with this magical clay. It is also featured in Funeral Ashes and a mix of matcha powder and green clay make up our Soulful Retreat bath salt.
